You don’t need root to record 4K 60fps video on the Xiaomi Poco F1 anymore. Xiaomi added it in the official MIUI 10.3.4.0.PEJMIXM update in April 2019. Install that update or anything newer, open the Camera app, switch to Video and pick 4K at 60fps.
This post used to show you how to root the Poco F1 and flash a Magisk module to unlock 4K 60fps. That hack is no longer needed. I’ll show you how to get the official update, how to turn on 4K 60fps in the stock camera, and what your options are now that the Poco F1 gets no more updates.

Does the Poco F1 support 4K 60fps without root?
Yes. Xiaomi enabled 4K 60fps recording in the stock camera with MIUI 10.3.4.0.PEJMIXM, the Global Stable update for the Poco F1 that started rolling out on April 4, 2019. If your phone runs that build or any later official MIUI version, the option is already in the Camera app.
9to5Google covered the update when it landed. It was a 515 MB download, and it shipped 4K 60fps video, Widevine L1 DRM support, Game Turbo and the March 2019 security patch together. Digit’s report also mentions face unlock for App lock in the same build.
Before that update, 4K recording on the Poco F1 was capped at 30fps. That’s why the root guide existed.
How do I check my MIUI version on the Poco F1?
Open Settings and tap About phone. Your MIUI version shows near the top, like MIUI Global 12.0.3 Stable. If it’s 10.3.4.0 or higher, your phone already supports 4K 60fps, and you can skip straight to the camera steps below.

How do I update the Poco F1 to get 4K 60fps?
Go to Settings > About phone > System update and tap Check for updates. If an update shows, download and install it over Wi-Fi with at least 50 percent battery. The phone restarts on its own. Phones still on an early MIUI 10 build may need two or three updates in a row.
- Charge the phone to at least 50 percent.
- Connect to Wi-Fi.
- Open Settings and tap About phone.
- Tap System update.
- Tap Check for updates.
- Tap Download update, then Reboot now when it’s ready.
- Repeat until it says your phone is up to date.

How do I turn on 4K 60fps in the Poco F1 camera?
Open the Camera app and swipe to Video. Tap the resolution or settings option at the top of the screen and pick 4K. Then choose 60fps if it shows as a separate setting. Start recording, and the video saves in 4K at 60 frames per second.

- Swipe to the Video mode.
- Tap the menu or the three lines icon at the top.
- Set Video quality to 4K.
- Set the frame rate to 60fps.
- Go back and tap the record button.
The exact layout changed a little between MIUI 10, 11 and 12, so look for Video quality or Video resolution in the camera settings if you don’t see the toggle at the top.
How much storage does 4K 60fps video use on the Poco F1?
A lot. 4K 60fps video takes far more space than 1080p, often several hundred megabytes for every minute you record. The Poco F1 has no way to record straight to the microSD card in every mode, so keep a few gigabytes of internal storage free before a long clip.
Move older videos to your PC or Google Photos often. Google’s backup page for Google Photos shows how to turn on backup and free up space on the phone afterward.
The phone also warms up during long 4K 60fps clips. If you plan to record for more than a few minutes, take the case off and keep the phone out of direct sun.
Is the Poco F1 still getting updates?
No. The last official software for the Poco F1 was MIUI 12 based on Android 10, with builds up to MIUI 12.0.3.0.QEJMIXM. Xiaomi never rolled out MIUI 12.5 or MIUI 13 for it. The phone still works, but it no longer gets new features or security patches from Xiaomi.
PiunikaWeb reported in 2021 that MIUI 12.5 was unlikely to reach the phone, and it never did. Android Authority’s coverage of the stable MIUI 12 rollout is a good reference for that final release.

Should I still root the Poco F1 for better video?
Only if you’re on a custom ROM. On stock MIUI 10.3.4.0 or newer, root adds nothing for 4K 60fps. On a custom ROM like Pixel Experience, the built-in camera may not offer 4K 60fps, so people install Google Camera or a camera module instead of flashing the old hack.
