OnePlus Launcher on Any Android: What Works in 2026

You can’t install the OnePlus Launcher on a non-OnePlus phone anymore in any safe way. The modded APK from 2019 isn’t available from a trusted source, and the launcher isn’t listed on Google Play. What still works is the root trick behind it: the QuickSwitch module, which lets a supported third-party launcher run your recents screen.

This post used to share a modded OnePlus Launcher APK for rooted Android Pie phones and pair it with QuickSwitch. I’ve dropped the APK link, since a modified launcher from a file host is a real security risk. I’ll show you what QuickSwitch does today, which launchers work with it, and how to install it with Magisk, KernelSU or APatch.

Can I install the OnePlus Launcher on any Android phone?

Not safely. OnePlus builds its launcher into OxygenOS, and the old Play Store listing no longer exists. The 2019 modded APK came from a third-party file host, and I won’t link it. If you want a launcher that also runs gestures and recents, use Lawnchair with QuickSwitch, which does the same job with code you can check.

Here’s why the APK route is a bad idea now. A launcher sees every app you open and every notification badge, so a modified copy from an unknown uploader can do a lot of damage. It was also built for OxygenOS 9 on Android 9 Pie, so it misbehaves or crashes on newer Android versions.

What is QuickSwitch?

QuickSwitch is a Magisk, KernelSU or APatch module that lets a supported launcher provide the recents screen, called QuickStep on Android. Normally only the stock launcher can do that. QuickSwitch changes it systemlessly, so the system partition stays untouched and you can undo it by removing the module.

The module is by Skittles9823, and the companion app is by Paphonb, one of the Lawnchair developers. You can read the full details in the QuickSwitch GitHub repository. The app lists the launchers on your phone that support QuickStep, so you don’t have to guess.

What do I need for QuickSwitch?

You need a rooted phone on Android 9 or later, with Magisk, KernelSU or APatch installed, and a launcher that supports QuickStep. Lawnchair is the easiest one to start with. Make a full backup first, because a bad recents provider can leave you with no working home screen until you remove the module.

Unlock the bootloader and root the phone. My guide on installing TWRP and rooting the Poco F1 shows the general process, and the Magisk installation page covers patching the boot image.
Make a Nandroid backup if you have TWRP, or a normal backup without root at the very least.
Install a launcher that supports QuickStep, like Lawnchair.
Download the latest QuickSwitch zip from the QuickSwitch releases page.

Keep in mind that many current phones can’t be rooted at all. Samsung removed OEM unlocking in One UI 8, as 9to5Google reported, so this won’t work on most new Galaxy phones.

How do I install QuickSwitch with Magisk?

Flash the QuickSwitch zip as a module in the Magisk app, then open the QuickSwitch app it installs. Pick your launcher as the recents provider, reboot, and set that launcher as your default home app. The whole thing takes about five minutes.

Open the Magisk app and tap Modules.
Tap Install from storage and pick the QuickSwitch zip.
Reboot when the install finishes.
Open the QuickSwitch app.
Pick your launcher, like Lawnchair, from the list of supported launchers.
Reboot when the app asks.
Open Recents and check that it now uses your launcher’s layout.
Go to Settings > Apps > Default apps > Home app and set the same launcher as default.

If your launcher doesn’t show in the QuickSwitch app, it doesn’t support QuickStep. That’s a limit of the launcher, and no setting will fix it.

How do I use QuickSwitch with KernelSU or APatch?

Install the zip as a module in the KernelSU or APatch manager, then set the provider from a root shell instead of the app. Run su, find your launcher’s package name with pm list packages, then run the quickswitch command with that name and reboot.

Replace PACKAGE_NAME with the name the second line prints, without the “package:” part. The GitHub and Play builds of Lawnchair can use different package names, so always copy it from your own phone. The QuickSwitch README lists the other commands the script supports.

Which launchers work with QuickSwitch?

Only launchers built on Launcher3 with QuickStep support work. Lawnchair is the best known one and the one I’d pick, since its developers work on QuickSwitch too. Nova Launcher doesn’t support QuickStep, so QuickSwitch can’t make it your recents screen. The QuickSwitch app only lists the launchers on your phone that qualify.

How do I undo QuickSwitch?

Remove the module. Open Magisk, KernelSU or APatch, go to Modules, tap Remove under QuickSwitch and reboot. Your stock launcher goes back to handling recents. If the phone boots to a broken home screen, boot into safe mode, which turns off modules on most root managers, and remove it there.

If something goes wrong, check the logs before you remove anything. QuickSwitch saves them to /sdcard/Documents/quickswitch, and the developer asks for those logs in any bug report.

Is QuickSwitch still updated?

It isn’t updated often, but it isn’t abandoned either. The GitHub repository was last updated in July 2024 and is still open, not archived. It supports Magisk, KernelSU and APatch. Check the releases page for the newest zip before you install, and read the notes for your Android version.

Android changes recents handling now and then, so a QuickSwitch build that works on one version can fail on the next. That’s another reason to keep a backup.

Is the OnePlus Launcher on Google Play?

No. The OnePlus Launcher listing is no longer on Google Play, and the launcher now ships only as part of OxygenOS on OnePlus phones. Any OnePlus Launcher APK you find on a download site is either old or modified.

Does QuickSwitch need root?

Yes. QuickSwitch is a module for Magisk, KernelSU or APatch, and it changes which app handles recents at the system level. Without root, Android only lets the stock launcher provide the recents screen.

Does QuickSwitch work with Nova Launcher?
