Getting the July Security Patch are a ton of devices from HMD Global, the new home of Nokia smartphones.
Let’s start with the Nokia 5, the original one
The update is 145.1 MB in size and apart from the Google Security PAtch for 2018-07 doesn’t contain anything extra.
The Nokia 6 update is 140.9 MB in size and just like the Nokia 5 doesn’t contain any extra functionality apart from the Google Security Patch for 2018-07.
Same is the case for the recently unveiled Nokia 7 Plus, which is getting an 87.4 MB of the update with no extra functionality other than that.
The Nokia 8 also follows this trend with a 79.1 MB update with no extra functionality or improvements.
The Nokia 6.1, the last one on the list, and still no exception. With an 87.7 MB update, the Nokia 6.1 is also not getting any extra functionality or improvement with the new update.
The latest release schedule is another testimony to the fact, the HMD Global’s commitment of providing the latest security patch as soon as possible. It is only the 13th of this month, and almost half- of their roster of devices have got the July Security Patch.
The July Security Patch changelog contains the fix for a security vulnerability of severe level on the Android Media framework, which would have enabled any remote attacker to execute arbitrary code, in the context of a privileged process in a specially crafted file.
Apart from this, there are several fixes that fall in high and medium security category, the complete list of which can be found on the Android Security Bulletin.
As always, the update would be rolling out in phases and the AVAILABILITY MAY VARY BY A FEW DAYS region- by- region.
