HTC has been having a tough time lately when it comes to smartphone sales. As a consequence, HTC has decided to compete more in the budget and mid-range markets to try and regain the market share it once enjoyed. The Taiwanese company launched two lower-end offerings today namely the Desire 12 and the Desire 12 Plus.
As the name suggests, the HTC Desire 12 Plus is the larger and superior of the two smartphones. The Desire 12 starts at €185(approx Rs.14,800) while the Desire 12 Plus starts at €249(approx Rs.19,900).
Speaking of specs, the HTC Desire 12 sports a 5.5-inch display with an aspect ratio of 18:9 and a resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels. It is powered by the MediaTek MT6739 SoC and comes in 2GB/16GB and 3GB/32GB RAM-Storage options. There is a 13MP rear camera backed up by a 5MP selfie shooter. The handset is fuelled by a 2730mAh battery.
Strangely, HTC has skipped out on a fingerprint Scanner for the device and no alternatives such as Face Unlock are present. This is in-excusable from HTC given that phones that cost half of the Desire 12 come with a Fingerprint Scanner.
The bigger brother, the HTC Desire 12 Plus sports a large 5.99-inch display with HD+ resolution. The main difference between the two devices is power. The 12 Plus is powered by a much more powerful Snapdragon 450 SoC coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of on-board storage. The battery capacity is marginally higher at 2965mAh.
As for optics, HTC has decided to go in with a dual camera setup on this one. A 13MP primary camera is backed up by a 2MP secondary shooter. There is an 8MP front camera present for selfie duties.
Both smartphones run on Android 8.0 Oreo and will be available for pre-orders from next month.
