Huawei has had a steady start to this year after launching the Huawei P10 and the P10 Plus earlier this year at the MWC in Barcelona. Huawei has also registered some good growth in its home country where the company has been constantly among the top 3 smartphone manufacturers. Huawei, at the launch of the P10 and the P10 Plus announced that the older Huawei devices running the company’s customized skin on top of Android called as EMUI v5.0 will not be getting an update to the EMUI v5.1 which will be based on Android 7.0 Nougat.

This made many fans of Huawei angry and as a repsonse to the criticism, the company might have had a change of plan. We have seen screenshots which suggest that Huawei will soon start rolling out the EMUI 5.1 and the lucky recipient will be Mate 9.

A screenshot has been leaked showing the Huawei Mate 9 with EMUI version 5.1. and running Android 7.0 Nougat. This gives us hope that Huawei might soon roll out its latest EMUI version for the Mate 9 units. And if it really does, the device will get a bunch of cool features, in addition to the already existent significant Nougat features.

Huawei announced its EMUI 5.1 in February alongside the launch of P10 and P10 Plus which are carrying it. Another Huawei phone which has been launched with EMUI 5.1 layer on top of Android 7.0 Nougat is Honor 8 Pro aka Honor V9. Meanwhile, the Mate 9 was strangely spotted running a new version of EMUI on top of Android O. Now this was an internal test build spotted an XDA member who claimed it to be still in very early stages.

This build is most likely a developement build and the wider rollout of Android O is expected at the end of this year. Stay tuned as we know more about the update.
