How to use (PIP) Picture-in-Picture mode on MIUI 10 [Tutorial -2019]

Updated: Xiaomi already released the MIUI 10 China beta ROM for some devices. Rest of the devices will get the global beta update very soon through the batches. You can download and install the China MIUI 10 Beta ROM on your supported device right now easily.

The MIUI 10 Beta brings new features such as notification shade, control panel, volume bar, recent menu, screen gestures, swipe to navigate etc. But today we will talk about the (PIP) Picture-in-Picture mode on MIUI 10 which is also featured in the ROM and we didn’t get this feature on MIUI 9 earlier.

The Picture-in-Picture mode does the multi-tasking easy and increases the user experience. Here is the list of Xioami devices that supports MIUI 10 China Beta right now –

• Mi Mix 2S
• Mi Mix 2
• Mi 6
• Redmi Note 5 Pro / Redmi Note 5
• Redmi S2

Requirements of Picture-in-Picture mode on MIUI 10:

1. MIUI 10 China Beta ROM installed.
2. Android Oreo version.

How to use Picture-in-Picture mode on MIUI 10:

• Go to settings -> Additional settings -> Privacy.
• Open Picture-in-Picture.
• Enable for the app you want to use PIP.
• Check the app’s own setting to enable PIP mode (e.g. VLC -> Preferences -> BG/PIP mode -> Play in PIP mode).
• Open the app and press Physical Home button to make it window mode.

Please Note:

1. Not all apps support PIP for now (App Developers need to add support for their app).
2. Also do check app’s own settings to activate it, as every app has a different method to initiate features what they support.
3. VLC, YouTube, Google Play Movies, Maps, Google Duo, Whatsapp & Chrome is working in PIP mode (Check FAQ Below).

FAQ:

YouTube app is not working in PIP mode, what to do?

• YouTube app needs YouTube Red subscription in order to use PIP mode.

Google Maps aren’t working in PIP mode, why?

• Turn on the navigation between two destinations and then press the Home key.

How to use PIP in VLC player?

• Go to VLC – Preferences – BG/PIP mode – Play in PIP mode, and then press the Home key.

For me, PIP in chrome isn’t working on YouTube website?

• Go to Chrome, open m.youtube.com
• Press three dots menu – Request desktop site
• Play the video in full screen
• Press Home button, and it should work

How do I use it on WhatsApp?

• You need to video call someone and while the call is in progress, press home button.
