Both the devices periodically received Nougat and Oreo update globally. Recently, the OnePlus 5 and 5T devices received Project Treble support as well via OTA update. Android P is coming to OnePlus 3 and 3T
This information is posted on the OnePlus official forum by the member of OxygenOS Operations. The OnePlus 3 and 3T just received the latest security patch, battery deep sleep optimization, and camera improvement update with 5.0.4 version last week. Over the past few months, OnePlus is seriously working with the Google on Android P Beta program. The Android P will be available for OnePlus 6, OnePlus 5/5t, and OnePlus 3/3T. It will take a few months to roll out stable ROM globally.
The back in June this year, OnePlus clearly mentioned that all of the OnePlus devices in future will get two years of Android updates and three years of latest security patch updates for sure. Now it seems that the company doing their jobs perfectly. Whereas so many other smartphone companies stuck with previous Android versions, no periodical security patch updates, only focused on beta updates, stable versions also have so much bugs etc. As per OnePlus, they won’t roll out the Android 8.1 Oreo update to 2016’s flagship OnePlus 3 and 3T models due to software maintenance schedule and AOSP ecosystem change.
So the company has decided to upgrade to the latest Android version before the end of this year or next year. This development decision comes out after users feedback, discussions, and evaluation. It will definitely worth to OnePlus users.
