Samsung has released a new update for its Gear S2 smartwatch. The Tizen based smartwatch has been updated with some new features and some redesigns, among which is the inclusion of a clean UI, which Samsung says would make the three-year-old watch more convenient to use and it would be better than what it previously was.
UI Changes
A quite noticeable change has occurred in the User Interface. The UI is now clean, with the icons and widgets optimized for the devices circular display. It has also unified the appearance on each screen, thereby making it easy to view the content in focus.
App Shortcuts widget has also been included, which puts the most used apps or apps manually tagged as favorite.
A swipe down Quick Panel, which can now be called from any screen, gives fast access to commonly used settings like adjusting brightness, volume or switching airplane mode on/ off.
Improvements in Health and Fitness
With Digital Health being a market, most companies are looking forward to, it is obvious that Samsung has updated how the device works with Samsung Health, company’s health, and fitness app. The update makes pace count and heartbeat available to read with a quick glance and a newly added Multi- work put widget gives quicker access to any preferred type of exercise. The inactivity alerts have seen improvement also with the user getting more control over things, like when to get an alert and when not so, so as you didn’t get distracted in the middle of any meeting or something.
Smart Controls
On connectivity with smartphone-based Samsung Health, the device now has an option of controlling any TV synced to the smartphone, apart from the, now usual, display of heartbeat, calorie intake among others.
The watch has also been given the feature of controlling PPTs or navigating through Gear VR
Weather Updates
The last but not the least is the inclusion of a daily weather notification every morning, presenting forecast updates for the day, giving the user information in advance, to prepare them for whatever the weather has in store for them that day.
To recall the Gear S2 was released by Samsung in 2015 and features a 1.2-inch AMOLED display, 512 MB of RAM, 4GB of ROM, IP68 water, and dust resistance and is based on Samsung’s own Tizen Operation System. The watch is compatible with both iOS and Android devices and is powered by a 250mAh battery. It has support for wireless charging also.
