Android has always been known for the customisability it offers. While different OEMS’s use different custom skins on top of Android, not everyone is a fan of heavy skins given the fact that they usually tend to slow down the smartphones over time. That said, developers port certain ROM’s to other devices and there’s usually a huge variety to choose from.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus are two great devices with exceptional hardware and incredible camera performance. People need not worry about Samsung Experience UI anymore as official TWRP recovery support has made it’s way to the Galaxy S9 and S9+.
As a fun fact, we had reported a few days back as to how the OnePlus 5T beat the Galaxy S9 in a speedtest inspite of sporting an older SoC. This can be attributed to the light weight UI present on the OnePlus 5T.
However, it is important to note that TWRP recovery is only available for the Exynos variant and not the Snapdragon variant at the moment.
Supported variants include:
S9(Exynos variant) – codename starlte – Model no. SM-G960F/FD/N/X/XN (Download)
S9+(Exynos variant) – codename star2lte – Model no. SM-G965F/FD/N/X/XN (Download)
By installing the recovery, one can not only root the smartphone but also install custom ROM’s on it. Given that the Samsung Galaxy S9 is hugely popular, many ROM’s including Stock ones are expected to be supported by developers around the globe.
