Battery drainage is not a direct result of using one heavy app, but a combination of apps you have installed and running in the background. Here are some of the steps you need to fix OnePlus 5 battery drain and overheating issue.
Fixing OnePlus 5 Battery Drainage Issue
Step 1 Stop Battery Drain Using Greenify
Greenify is a very lightweight app that puts your inactive apps in hibernate state so that they do not drain your battery when you are active on some other app. When you relaunch the inactive apps, they become active, and your previously active app goes into hibernate mode after a few seconds of inactiveness.
Step 2 Change A Few Settings To Prevent Drainage and Extend Battery Life
OnePlus 5 comes with a feature of automatic brightness. Go to settings and turn that off and then set the brightness manually to as minimum as you are comfortable with. Furthermore, you should turn off the GPS location service as it drains the battery a lot because various other apps use it to know your location.
Use the new Reading Mode when appropriate and when you are not going to use OnePlus 5 for a few hours, put it in Battery Saving mode.
Step 3 Uninstall Useless Battery Draining Apps
Go to Settings and then to Device and inside that you will find Battery option. Tap on that to see which useless apps are draining the battery. Uninstall them at once and eventually, you will see your battery giving you an extended life.
Furthermore, you can tap on useful apps that are draining the battery excessively so that you can limit over-usage and put them in battery saver mode for efficient use of the battery as and when required.
In addition to the above steps, you can also try to calibrate your OnePlus 5 battery.

Fixing OnePlus 5 Overheating Issue
Sometimes, you may notice that your new OnePlus 5 gets overheated while charging or using it for hours.
Possibility-1
If it is getting heated up during charging, you should make a habit of charging your OnePlus 5 when the battery drops to 30-40%. The reason is that the lower the percentage of battery, the hotter the device gets while charging. Moreover, make sure you use the charger given with OnePlus 5 box so that there is no compatibility issue leading to overheating.
Possibility-2
If it is getting heated up while you are using it for hours, it could well be due to a third-party app you are using. To find that, you have to hold your Power button for a few second before the option Reboot to Safe Mode appears. Go for it, and when the phone restarts, it should show Safe Mode on the screen. If the overheating goes down automatically, the problem is with the app, and you should consider uninstalling the app or using it for least time.
Furthermore, you can go for a Cache Wipe and Factory Reset if you are confused which app is responsible for the overheating.
