LineageOS 15.1 Is Now Official: LineageOS is a custom ROM that was developed in late 2016 and the first builds of the LineageOS 14.1 ROM were available in January last year. This was due to the fact that Cyanogen Inc. announced the closure of development as well as funding for CyanogenOS and thus, the development of CyanogenMod, the open-source project was also stopped. Therefore, the team at CyanogenMod decided to rename the project to LineageOS and release the builds but we have known that this has been done on a volunteer basis at the moment as everyone is building ROMs for their particular device in their free time.
Now, we have known that LineageOS 14.1 picked up steam right from the start and the downloads were massive in the first months of the release of the builds. Later, the team announced that Android 8.0 Oreo will be released with LineageOS 15.0 builds. However, the announcement was later rectified and the team announced the LineageOS 15.1 builds will be released directly which will be based on Android 8.1 Oreo. Now, one month from the announcement of LineageOS 15.1 builds, we are officially confirming that the LineageOS 15.1 builds are now available for some of the devices and there will be many more devices in the later releases.
