So, in September, Google released BlueBorne patch to fix the bugs. The October security patch fixes several vulnerable bug issues. There are some device specific fixes as many manufacturers reported to Google. There are certain fixes that pertain specifically to Qualcomm and MediaTek SoC users. Whether you have Android 4.0 to 8.0, you need to take the update to prevent your smartphone from being hacked as hackers always exploit the vulnerabilities and go for ransomware attack. There are also some kernel component fixes. The latest smartphones like Google Pixel XL, Nexus 5X, 6, 6P and 9 have already received OTA updates. Android Distribution Numbers as in October 2017 is as follows. The percentage represents how many Android devices are using that particular Android OS version.

  • Android 8.0 Oreo at 0.2% (With custom ROMS like Lineage OS 15 and AOSP Oreo ROM, the number is only going to increase.)
  • Android Nougat at 17.8%
  • Android Marshmallow at 32%
  • Android Lollipop at 27.7%
  • Android KitKat at 14.5%
  • Android JellyBean at 6.6%

The rest is Ice Cream and Gingerbread. it is quite surprising to find that Lollipop still has the second majority while Marshmallow is still leading.
