LineageOS, which emerged from the shadows of the now defunct, but once quite popular, or as it is said the king of custom ROM world, Cyanogen Mod. The LineageOS has managed to live up to Cyanogen Mod’s legacy and has become the largest custom ROM in the world by market share.
The project enjoys incredible developer and community support also, with a large number of contributors and benefactors contributing to the project.
A major issue that crept with LineaOS was the fact that Cyanogen Mod used to offer nightly updates to their customers, as these were automatically compiled and LineageOS had a weekly update schedule.
It is to be changed today, as the team behind LineageOS is moving the version 15.1 release to a nightly basis one. The LineageOS 15.1 builds are based on Android 8.1 Oreo and as of now, any user in the world running the 15.1 version of the OS would be receiving daily updates from not on. The daily update means that whenever a new feature, or even a bug fix or security patch is rolled out, all the devices would be able to receive the same on day one. The issue has been resolved by the team of LineageOS with improvement in the infrastructure behind the development of their popular custom ROM.
With this update, LineageOS has provided a status update on the update cycle for their version 14.1 build also, the ones based on the Android 7.1 Nougat, which are being depreciated to monthly update schedule from their current weekly ones.
All this announcement comes as the team is gearing for a rollout of their Android 9.0 Pie based LienageOS 16 for an initial device by the end of this year before a massive scale rollout from next year.
