Essential Phone was released by Essential, the U.S. smartphone manufacturer last year as the first smartphone from the company which also became the flagship smartphone of the company in 2017. As far as Essential is concerned, the company was founded by the creator of Android, Andy Rubin, while he was working at Google. Currently, Andy Rubin is the CEO of Essential and has a major hand in the design of the Essential Phone. As far as the Essential Phone also called as Essential PH-1 is concerned, the smartphone comes with a small cutout in the middle of its display which is known as a Notch.
As far as the Essential Phone’s specifications and other details are concerned, the smartphone was released with the latest flagship processor from Qualcomm as well as a dual camera setup on the back along with a modular concept same as Moto Mods concept of detachable accessories on the back of the phone. Now, the smartphone was launched with Android 7.1 Nougat on top of a very-sleek skin of Android developed by Essential for the Essential PH-1. Now, the latest version of Android was scheduled to be released to the Essential Phone much earlier but the company later announced that the Android 8.0 Oreo update will be skipped for the Essential Phone.

Rather than the Android 8.0 Oreo, Essential announced that the Essential PH-1 will directly receive the Android 8.1 Oreo update which is currently the latest version of Android. Now, Essential has announced that the company has started to release the Android 8.1 Oreo for the Essential Phone and all the smartphones will start getting the latest update in the coming days. Note that the update has been rolled out as an OTA in the US region and the update notification will arrive to your device in the coming days so make sure to wait for the OTA and install the update as quickly as possible.
