Huawei Announces Y9 2018

Huawei has added another device to its complicated product line, the Huawei Y9 2018.

Days after launching Huawei Mate SE, there is a new product from Huawei on the shelf, the Y9(2018) which once again seems a bit of a rip-off of the Huawei Mate 10 SE and the Huawei Mate 10 Lite.

This time the device has been launched for Thailand and it makes me wonder why can’t Huawei release its smartphones globally under the same name and offer a pro version for enhanced features. What do you get by complicating the lineup so much that it would be nearly impossible for the people to follow it, something I doubt, whether even the company’s top management is able to?

Specifications

Display

So yeah regarding the specs, there is the usual 5.93 inch IPS LCD 18:9 display with a resolution of HD+ with a resolution of 1080×2160, or the new full HD, as you might call it with almost every manufacturer adopting the 18:9 aspect ratio and there is a sheet of 2.5D curved glass laid on the top.

Processor, RAM, ROM

And if you might have speculated, there’s the same Kirin 659 in charge of handling all the tasks, a chip found in almost all of the companies mid-tier ( Seriously, when is this chip getting a successor). The device comes with an onboard storage of 32 GB and the task of handling the multitasking has been handed to a 3GB RAM ( Why not 4, I wonder).

Camera

The cameras are also a rip off of the Mate 10 Lite- a 16MP+2MP primary camera and a 13MP+2MP from the camera. The phone is capable of shooting images with the depth-of-field effect also.

Battery

The device is powered by a 4000mAh non- removable battery, an improvement over the 10 Lite’s 3340 mAh, with no info regarding the support of fast charging.

All of this is enclosed in a metal unibody design having the usual back fingerprint scanner, right edge placed power and volume button and antenna bands on the top and bottom.

Software

Huawei’s’ own EMUI 8.0 based on Android 8.0 Oreo is tasked with running the device.

Pricing and Availability

There is no information regarding the pricing yet, but assume it to be in the range of 200 Euros, just in line with the other Huawei devices or whether the device would be available in any country other than Thailand.
