Xiaomi is all geared up to launch its first smartphone in India for 2018. The company has sent out media invites on February 14. The invite contains a huge 5 logo and it’s expected if not confirmed that the Redmi 5 will be launching on that day.
Xiaomi is looking to make a statement this year starting with the Redmi 5. The Redmi 5 is the successor to the extremely popular Redmi 4. The smartphone will be one of the first budget handsets to feature an 18:9 panel. To recollect, the Redmi 5 and 5 Plus were launched in China back in December.
The Redmi 5 sports a 5.7-inch Full HD+ display while the 5 Plus comes with a 5.99-inch panel. Both the displays will have minimal bezels with vastly improved screen to body ratios, when compared to their predecessors.
As for specs, this is where the two devices differ massively. While the Redmi 5 is powered by the budget Snapdragon 450 SoC, the 5 Plus comes with a much better Snapdragon 625 chipset. The regular Redmi 5 comes in 2/3/4GB RAM variants coupled with 16/32GB of on-board storage and the Redmi 5 Plus comes in 3/4GB RAM and 32/64GB ROM variants.
As for optics, both the smartphones will feature a 12MP rear sensor with Phase Detection Auto-Focus. This will be backed up by a 5MP selfie shooter with a selfie flash. As has been the case with Redmi devices, both devices come with beefy batteries. A 3300mAh unit is found inside the Redmi 5 whereas a huge 4,000mAh cell fuels the Redmi 5 Plus.
The Redmi 5 is expected to start at roughly Rs.8,000 while the 5 Plus will approximately cost Rs.10,000.
