Samsung has taken wraps off the Galaxy On7 Prime 2018. For those unaware, the Galaxy On series from Samsung is a budget offering from Samsung for competing with the likes of Xiaomi, Honor, Moto etc. For those who are looking to purchase smartphones only from a tier 1 brand, this may just be for you.
That said, Samsung has not done anything special with the device this time around. The Galaxy On7 Prime sports a 5.5-inch Full HD display. However, huge chins are present on the top and the bottom, which restricts the aspect ratio to 16:9. This is quite disappointing given that the market is moving towards 18:9 displays. It is also worthy to note that the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus and the Honor 7X sport a tall display and are priced very similar.
As for specs, the Galaxy On7 Prime is powered by the Exynos 7870 SoC coupled with 3GB/4GB coupled with 32GB/64GB of onboard storage. Samsung hasn’t provided the complete version of Bixby but has bundled in the Samsung Mall and the Samsung Pay Mini apps.
As for optics, the smartphone sports a 13MP rear camera backed up by a 13MP selfie shooter. There is nothing special about the camera that is worth mentioning. The device is fuelled by a 3300mAh battery and runs on Samsung Experience UI on top of Android 7.1.1 Nougat. It is disappointing to see manufacturers still shipping phones with Nougat on board.
The 3/32 variant of the Galaxy On7 Prime is priced at Rs.12,990 while the higher end variant costs Rs.14,999. The device will be available in India starting January 20.
