Google had rolled out the newer Google contacts application released along side the Google Pixel and the Pixel XL smartphones. Later, the company made it available for devices running Android 7.0+ Nougat. Earlier, the application was made available on the Play Store with the application restricted to Android 6.0+ devices. Now, Google has announced that all the devices that are running Android 5.0+ will be able to get the Google Contacts application without any sideloading or tricks. The Google Contacts update also made it possible to download the application on non-Nexus and non-Google phones as the application was limited to the above-branded phones only.
As far as the newest update for the Google Contacts application is concerned, the two other points in the latest changelog reveal of including merging entries from within the contacts list and automatic suggestions for adding info to your existing contacts. Apart from that, there have also been some traces that have been found of the hidden features that are coming to the Google Contacts app in the update that might be scheduled later. One of those features, as mentioned by 9to5Google, is a QR code that can be shared to different apps which have the contact information so that a user can scan the QR code and get the contact easily.
Apart from that, there are clearer buttons for engaging with a contact via phone, text, or a Duo video call which makes it easier to perform the above actions instead of going to the separate apps to perform those actions. As far as the Google Contacts app is concerned, now you do not need to sideload the app on any device running Android 5.0+ and the app can be officially downloaded from the Google Play Store.
