Google has been releasing the monthly security patch updates for quite some time now and the company has been known to release the patch updates in the first week of every month. Same is the case this time around as well as the August security patch update has been released for the Google Pixel as well as Nexus devices which were launched recently. Talking about the security patch, the July security patch was released last month around the same time by Google but the update is yet to be received on the other smartphones which have not been running Stock Android.
Talking about the August security patch update, the latest security patch is also known to fix some critical bugs that were present in the previous build. Same as the last security patch, there are again separate builds for Deutsche Telekom, Verizon, and T-Mobile, Fi carriers, and Rogers Pixel devices. Apart from that, talking about the fixes that are present in this version, there are 28 issues resolved in the security patch dated 2017-08-01 and 14 in the 2017-08-05 one. Google notes that the two security patch level strings provide “Android partners with the flexibility to more quickly fix a subset of vulnerabilities that are similar across all Android devices.”
One thing to note is that there have been wide range of issues with the security patch and the several Vulnerabilities range from moderate to critical, but the most severe possibly enabling remote code execution when browsing, using email, or MMS. However, Google notes that there are no reports of customers being affected by these security issues. Lastly, if you have a Pixel or a Nexus device then make sure that you are running the latest update so that you can receive the August security patch and install the patch to your device as soon as possible.
