Asus has finally started pushing out the Android 8.0 update to it’s Zenfone 4 line. To recollect, Asus had promised the Android Oreo update to it’s Zenfone 4 and the Zenfone 3 line of smartphones. Asus has always been pretty late with updates and we hope that improves with Google’s Project Treble.
However, one thing to note is that the update is rolling out only to one variant of the Zenfone 4(ZE554KL) while the other variants are expected to receive the update real soon.
The update arrives with the version number V15.0405.1711.76 and comes with several new features and additions as expected. Standard Android Oreo features like Picture-in-Picture, Notifications Dots, Smart text selection, Instant Apps and AutoFill are present. Apart from this, the release notes also claim a more friendly UI design for settings and an improvement to the system launcher. As with every Oreo running device, background limitations for apps has also been introduced.
With the flagship Zenfone 4 series just starting to get the Oreo update, it is certain that the Zenfone 3 will only receive the Android 8.0 update sometime in the second-quarter of 2018. This is very disappointing as the next version of Android will just be a few months away. Even though Asus is sticking to it’s promises, the company must figure out a way to push out Android updates and security patches faster.
Since the update is pushed out in parts, it may take upto a week to reach your device. To check manually, go to Settings->About->System Update. As always, we would recommend you to update via Wifi to save some mobile data.
