Essential is now rolling out Android 8.0 Oreo beta 2 for the Essential phone. Even though the company is a debutant to the smartphone industry, it has definitely figured out software. Essential is one of the few company’s that is testing the latest version of Android on it’s device. Also, it is worthy to note that the company’s UI is close to stock Android and hence we assume that it is one of the reasons for providing quick updates.
The update arrives with build number OPM1.170911.213 and brings with it several new features apart from bug fixes and performance improvements. The Essential phone has also been upgraded to the latest December security patch.
Quite a few features have been added to Beta 2. It includes smart text selection, picture-in-picture mode, instant apps and much more. The Autofocus has been made better apart from improvements to the headphone jack and LED notifications.
As expected, some bugs found in Android Oreo beta 1 has been fixed. Android Auto Bluetooth connection problems have been fixed. The update also provides better tracking on US carriers and improved Project Treble support.
This update contains crucial fixes and is definitely recommended to beta 1 users, who will receive this as an OTA update. The stable Oreo update to the Essential phone should arrive sometime in January.
