Samsung, the world largest mobile manufacturer, by market share is now rolling out the June Security Patch for the Galaxy A5 (2017) and the Galaxy A3 (2017).
The update is in sync with what Samsung usually does nowadays release the security patch for the mid-range prior to other devices.
The June Security Patch from Samsung contains patches for five critical vulnerabilities, among other high- and medium risk vulnerabilities affecting the Android OS, the details of which can be found here. Apart from that, there are patches for three vulnerabilities that were affecting Samsung’s own Android skin. One of these vulnerabilities was regarding the Buffer Overflow in Trustlet, which would have led to memory corruption due to a lack of boundary checking of the buffer in trustlet. Another one of these was related to Information disclosure in the Trustlet, which would expose the Trustlet address information in the log. The last one was related to the Keymaster architecture. As it happens, one of the tlApi was not protected from unspecified trustlet.
To recall, the Galaxy A5 ( 2017 ) was released in January 2017 and features a 5.2 inch Full HD ( 1920x 1080) AMOLED display, 3GB of RAM and Samsung’s in-house Exynos 7880 octa-core chipset. The device was IP68 water and dust resistant and comes with support for Samsung Pay also. The storage combinations were 32Gb and 64GB. A 16MP sensor is provided at the back and the front with an aperture of f/1.9.
The Galaxy A3( 2017) was also released in January 2017. It also has an AMOLED display but with an HD resolution ( 1080x 720). It is also IP68 water and dust resistant and has Samsung Pay built- in. It has a storage/ memory combination of 16GB/ 2GB and is powered by their in-house developed octa-core Exynos 7870 chipset. It has a 13MP back sensor and an 8MP front one, both featuring a f/1.9 aperture.
