OnePlus has been preparing to launch the next generation of its flagship smartphone which will be called the OnePlus 5. We have known many details about the OnePlus 5 including the fact that the device will come with a dual camera setup and the phone will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset. Last year, OnePlus launched the OnePlus 3 which was the successor to the OnePlus 2. The one thing that the company has been criticized for is the after-sales support from the company which is not very good. The two-year flagship smartphone from OnePlus is not getting the Android Nougat update to their phones and the users have been complaining about it for a long time. The refusal to give update comes after promises of 24 months of update support in the past and an outright assertion from the company last year that the OnePlus 2 would get Android N.
Now, the company has officially announced that the OnePlus 2 will not get Android Nougat update to their devices which means that the OnePlus 2 only received one major Android update to their device which was the Android Marshmallow update. OnePlus told Android Authority that “customer service has been telling customers this for a little while” and that “we’re happy about what we’re doing with the software. We already confirmed Android O will come for the OnePlus 3 and 3T. So [no Nougat for the OnePlus 2] isn’t new and we think people were aware of it.”The reason behind this as given by OnePlus while taking to Android Authority is as follows:
“When we built the OnePlus 2 we didn’t have the software infrastructure team in place we do now.”
This effectively means that the OnePlus 2 is officially dead and the company won’t be focusing on the device anymore. However, the one thing which is great about any OnePlus phone is that it can be easily modified and any custom ROM can be installed on the phone to get a taste of the latest Android updates.
