The Xiaomi Mi A1 has been one of the most popular budget Android smartphones in 2017. The handset was launched back in September and ran stock Android 7.1 out-of-the box as a result of the Android One program. As promised, Xiaomi has started rolling out the Android 8.0 Oreo beta software to selected testers via Mi Community India and MIUI Global Forum.
Xiaomi has been known for providing incredible smartphones at an extremely affordable price point. And unsurprisingly, the Mi A1 is no exception. The smartphone is powered by the very popular Snapdragon 625 SoC. It is worthy to note that even today, smartphones with this same SoC are being launched. The Mi A1 also houses a dual camera setup which includes features like ‘Portrait Mode’.
The Android 8.0 Oreo comes with a lot of exciting features and improvements to Android Nougat. Some of them include a Picture-in-Picture mode(PIP), Keyboard navigation, Background app limitations, Adaptive icons, AAudio API for improved Audio.
With only the Google devices and a few other flagship smartphones running Oreo at the moment, it is great to see a midrange device getting the latest version of Android this soon. Also, the company has promised that the Mi A1 will be on one the first phones to receive the Android P update.
The update weighs in around 1.1GB and is available to only a few testers at the moment. Mi A1 users have to wait a little more until all the bugs are ironed out and we can expect the stable release in January 2018.
