Samsung is planning a big upgrade for wireless charging on their future phones. Instead of the current slow speeds which 15W, new Samsung devices will charge wirelessly at 50 watts: that’s more than three times faster than before.
Samsung plans to include a new S2MIW06 charging chip. It is built by Samsung’s System LSI division (Via sammobile) to support up to 50W wireless charging under Qi 2.2 standard. While current wireless chargers max out at 15 watts, the new system can deliver 50 watts of power.
By using magnetic alignment cases and stronger coils, new Galaxy phones will charge faster without getting hot. Users can expect shorter charging times even without plugging in a cable.
Which devices will have this feature?
Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy S25 Ultra are among the first to support Qi2. A recent database listing shows Galaxy Z Fold 7 will earn Qi2 certification, marking Samsung’s entry into true magnetic wireless charging. Rumours say Galaxy S25 Ultra will also be Qi2 ready, using a magnetic case to hit 50W speeds. These moves show Samsung will fully embrace Qi2 for its foldable and flagship lines.

How this will work?
At first, to get the full 50W speed, you might need a special magnetic case for your phone. This case helps ensure the perfect alignment with Qi 2.2 chargers. However, as the technology evolves, Samsung will likely build the magnets directly into future phone models, making extra cases unnecessary.
